In June of 2014 we were approached by a new customer to develop a low cost display shelf for drinking water enhancement products. This type of shelf is currently produced from an acrylic sheet that is formed individually or from injection molded plastic. Taking into consideration the growth of our customer’s product, they felt that a lower initial development cost was needed and thermoforming was the answer. Our engineers reviewed load requirements, conferred with industry buyers, and determined what constraints they would need to work within. Their findings netted the following requirements:
Using surface features that add structure, we developed the shelf using 0.060 Clear PETG. The final load test resulted in a 4x weight capacity before any failure indications were noted.
